The Abraham Accords: Whitewashing Palestinian Suffering?

The false claim of being “the only democracy in the Middle East” has traditionally been used by Israel's apologists to whitewash its crimes and human rights violations against Palestinians. This has especially been the case with the Abraham Accords, passed in 2020 by former President Donald Trump under the pretense of ushering in a “new era of peace” between Israel and its undemocratic Arab neighbors.

Student Voices for Palestine invites members of the Notre Dame community to a discussion featuring Atalia Omer, Rashied Omar, and Daniel Bannoura, who will interrogate this narrative. Underlying the supposed “fruits of the Abraham Accords” are disturbing tropes of Orientalism and the abuse of interfaith dialogue for the sake of “normalization”—all while sidelining Palestinians and whitewashing the regime of brutal apartheid enforced by Israel.
